The challenge
A full Google Analytics audit discovered that the current implementation had more issues than expected. Google Analytics code was not correctly implemented: there were duplication of tags coming from 3 different systems (hard-coded in templates, Cloudfare, and Tag Manager).
The company also used multiple content, ecommerce and marketing platforms (Ontraport, WordPress and SamCart) in different domains/subdomains, that need to be consistently setup using cross-domain tracking.
Ontraport did not allow implementation of Google Analytics using a global element, which caused a manual implementation of Google Tag Manager via numerous landing pages.
After the audit and clean-up, we implemented Google Tag Manager in 3 different platforms. A dataLayer for ecommerce using JavaScript was generated to measure e-commerce transactions in SamCart.
Results
- Google Analytics ecommerce implemented in SamCart using JavaScript variables to fully measure ecommerce transactions and checkout.
- Better marketing attribution: Cross domain tracking was implemented to join user sessions across 3 different domains
- Better analysis with customized events for the business: goals for purchases, phone calls, contact/live chat interactions, & email.
Testimonial
“Jaime did an excellent job with this project. He is very knowledgeable about Google Analytics tracking and this job ended up being a lot more work than we had anticipated but he stuck with it and got it done. I also appreciated that he kept me updated frequently. The communication was solid. It is rare to find a freelancer who has the skills and also communicates well. I plan to hire Jaime again in the future to help with any tracking work or for evaluation of my ads. Thank you so much.”
